Impact

At Nauru Medical Centre, we believe that good health extends beyond hospital walls — it begins in our communities, our environment, and our shared commitment to a sustainable future.

Through our social responsibility initiatives, we are investing in programs that promote wellness, environmental stewardship, and community resilience across Nauru.

Supporting Our Elders:
“Young at Heart”

Nauru Medical Centre is proud to join the Government of Nauru’s “Young at Heart” initiative, which honours and supports the Nauruans who survived the occupation of Nauru during during the World War II, and the broader elderly community.

Through this partnership, we provide ongoing geriatric health and wellness support, ensuring that older Nauruans receive compassionate, dignified care.

By standing alongside the government in this initiative, Nauru Medical Centre helps ensure that those who have contributed so much to the nation continue to live with respect, comfort, and care.

Our programs include:

•   Regular health assessments and home visits

•   Support for chronic disease management and medication adherence

•   Nutrition and physical activity programs to promote healthy ageing

•   Social and mental wellness activities to encourage connection and purpose

By standing alongside the government in this initiative, Nauru Medical Centre helps ensure that those who have contributed so much to the nation continue to live with respect, comfort, and care.

Sustainable Food &
Environmental
Stewardship

In partnership with Department of Environment Management and Agriculture (DEMA), Nauru Medical Centre supports sustainable food production initiatives at Buada Farm, strengthening the link between health, nutrition, and environmental care.

At Buada Farm, hydroponic and drip-irrigation systems are being developed to grow fresh vegetables using water-efficient, soil-free methods. These systems are well suited to Nauru’s unique environment, where traditional farming is limited. The initiative aims to improve local food security, reduce reliance on imported produce, and promote sustainable agricultural practices that can be replicated across the island. Expansion and refinement of the systems are ongoing, with the long-term goal of creating a self-sustaining model for future projects.

Complementing this work, our environmental responsibility program focuses on recycling and repurposing organic biowaste generated by the hospital and local restaurants. By transforming waste into useful resources, we reduce landfill use, lower environmental impact, and support a cleaner, healthier island.

Together, these initiatives reflect our belief that healthcare, food security, and environmental stewardship are deeply interconnected — all essential to building a healthier, more resilient community for Nauru.

Building a Healthy and
Sustainable Future

Nauru Medical Centre’s commitment extends beyond clinical care. Each of our initiatives — from sustainable farming to waste reduction to elder support — reflects our vision of a healthier, more self-reliant, and environmentally responsible Nauru.

“Together, we are building the foundations for a stronger, healthier future.”
