Position Title: Infection Prevention and Quality Control Nurse
Department: Nursing / Quality and Patient Safety
Reports To: Nursing Director / Clinical Services Manager

Position Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Infection Control Nurse to join our healthcare team at the Naoero Medical Centre. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a resource-limited island setting, ensuring the highest standards of infection prevention and control across all clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control (IPC) policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular audits, surveillance, and risk assessments to minimize infection risks.
• Provide education and training to clinical and non-clinical staff on IPC protocols.
• Monitor outbreaks and coordinate effective response strategies.
• Ensure compliance with international infection control standards and best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent).
• Current nursing license/registration.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 3 year in infection prevention and control.
• Strong knowledge of IPC guidelines, outbreak management, and surveillance systems.
• Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, resource-limited environment.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of infection prevention audits, surveillance activities, incident trends and quality improvement initiatives.
• Prepare monthly or quarterly reports outlining key findings, risks, trends and recommendations.
• Maintain an updated infection prevention and quality improvement action tracker.
• Ensure audit findings and corrective actions are communicated to relevant departments.
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriate handling of patient and staff information.
• Ensure that records and reports are available for internal reviews and authorised external assessments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Registered Nurse with current professional registration/licence.
• Recognised nursing qualification.
• Additional training or qualification in infection prevention and control, clinical governance, healthcare quality management or patient safety preferred.
• Previous experience in infection prevention, clinical auditing, quality assurance or hospital nursing preferred.
• Experience in conducting audits, analysing clinical data and preparing reports.
• Knowledge of infection prevention standards, patient safety principles and clinical risk management.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
